Mount Alexander Net Zero Working Group is a small, vibrant team that celebrates the sustainability stories of businesses and organisations in the Mount Alexander Shire. We are proud to be part of the systemic change occurring as we move to more efficient energy use and a sustainable future.
MANZWG is concerned about the impacts of climate change. We care about the survival of our ecosystems and society as the Globe warms and understand the issues facing us are many and complex. However –
- We know the problems we face have solutions that are within our collective reach,
- The path to sustainability is simplified when the right information is provided,
- That sustainable business methods are practical to implement and profitable in practice,
- There are many who wish to take the path to sustainable business methods, but are unsure how to begin the journey.
Our aim is to inform, encourage and assist businesses on their way to reducing emissions, and demonstrate that ecologically sustainable business practices practical, profitable and available.
Heather Cummins
Heather has lived in Castlemaine on Jaara Jaara Country since 2013. She teaches music locally and co-directs Resonance String Orchestra, a community music making initiative based in Woodend and Castlemaine. Heather loves exploring the creeks, trees and wildflowers of the region with her two young boys, and is excited to be working with inspiring members of the Mount Alexander Shire community on the 100% Green Energy campaign – one piece of the worldwide puzzle that is climate action work.
Simon Veitch
I am an educational publisher and software developer. I’ve been aware of problems we face, particularly environmental problems and our all too human part in them, for far too long. Environmentally, our collective energy use is a major issue – it’s a topic with consequences. I believe the shortest path to a better future is through education, meaning an involvement with the problems, awareness of the solutions, and informed action.
Frances Gall
Frances teaches and plays violin and viola in Castlemaine and the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra. For six years she taught at Castlemaine Secondary College, and now teaches at her own studio and publishes music education resources together with Simon Veitch. She moved to Castlemaine 14 years ago, and has been passionate about preserving and improving a clean sustainable environment for decades. A long-time member of ACF (Australian Conservation Foundation), she is excited to see the progress that our Mt Alexander community is making towards sustainability.
Fran Gleeson
Fran has been deeply concerned about climate change for 20 years. When her 6 year old grandson asked her if the world was sick and would it die, she decided to become more active. After helping Environment VIctoria during the 2018 State elections in Frankston, she moved to the Mt Alexander Shire where she discovered the many benefits of living in a country town surrounded by so much beauty. She is now committed to helping to make the transition to 100% renewables in the Shire a reality.
